NEB_MEETS: Sustainable and resource-saving construction in Saxony-Anhalt
Exemplary construction projects from Saxony-Anhalt, Germany and beyond provided impetus at the second NEB_MEETS on December 11, 2024. Architects working in Saxony-Anhalt introducing their projects, demonstrated that sustainable and resource-saving construction can succeed! How? This was discussed in a lively debate: with courage, creativity and consistency and in close cooperation with everyone involved in the construction: from building owners to architectural offices and craft businesses to open-minded administrations.
And that is entirely in line with the NEB_CRITERIA: Beautiful. Sustainable. Together. The NEB_NETWORK OFFICE had invited the people, and Dr. Jürgen Ude, State Secretary for Structural Change in the Central German region and Major Industrial Projects in the State Chancellery of Saxony-Anhalt, opened the day. The meeting was flanked by a small fair of associations and manufacturers with their ideas and contributions for a better world of construction.
Around 50 interested people accepted the invitation to the Saline Museum in Halle, where the event took place. The museum is a place, which stands for both preserved industrial culture and successful transformation. With its current exhibition "After the Machines" it created a suitable context for a discussion about the opportunities connected to a turnaround in construction. The first impulse focused on the traditional building material clay. The architect Carsten Sußmann from Sussmann & Sussmann Architects and engineers Magdeburg, reported on the construction of the information center for the ring sanctuary in Pömmelte, the first new building made of rammed earth since the 1950s in Saxony-Anhalt. It was about advantages, challenges, but also about getting to know an old building material, available without energy-intensive processes and which is completely recyclable. Building in harmony with nature.
This concern was also the focus of the second impulse, given by Kim Le Roux from the Berlin architectural firm LXSY, which operates with high standards in its everyday work: "For us, architecture is increasingly an attempt to find answers in the built environment to the most urgent social, societal, economic and ecological challenges of our time." Her guiding principles were a plea for circular planning and construction, for a transformation of the industry that conserves resources and avoids waste - in short, towards a circular economy in the construction sector. LXSY have already been able to prove this with the construction of the Impact Hub in Berlin, and they are in the development phase of the "Wiegand Quartier" in Merseburg.
Christina Hellmund from gmp · Architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partner, Berlin, drew the participants' attention to sustainable, resource-saving or even completely demountable construction projects that the renowned office is realizing around the world. One example of this is the monument-compliant renovation of the Hypar shell in Magdeburg, which was made possible by an approval, in this individual case, with carbon concrete. In the subsequent discussion, many questions were raised: How practical is circular construction? How can a turnaround in the construction industry succeed? Which trades and construction companies are already working sustainably and resource-saving today? And how can the warranty be ensured, when components are used that are innovative, recycled or reused? It was a search for ways that may still be beyond the usual today, but are our opportunity today for tomorrow. All of the projects that have applied for JTF funding and which the NEB_NETWORK OFFICE is currently compiling in a project database on its website, available from January 2025 at www.neuebauhaeusler.com, are already showing groundbreaking potential here. It is also an invitation to all those who are driving forward projects that follow the NEB_CRITERIA Beautiful. Sustainable. Together. and are thus automatically #NeueBauhäusler in Saxony-Anhalt to receive support from the NEB_NETWORK OFFICE. We help with public relations and funding acquisition and the projects that meet the NEB_CRITERIA can also be presented on our platform. Contact us directly: NEB_FAMILY@saleg.de
